Kent Singers

Celebrating our 40th Anniversary Season!

The Kent Singers, a small auditioned group of amateur singers, have been bringing high quality choral performances throughout the Litchfield County community for 40 years. The group is known for its clean, finely pitched sound.  Programs that Kent Singers develops have included early music, baroque, classical and modern works, both sacred and secular.

Members of the group are a congenial and varied bunch, with professions as far ranging as garden photography, computer programming, veterinary medicine, masonry and the ministry.

Welcome to Our New Musical Director, Matt Travis

We are pleased and excited to announce that with the start of 2013, Matthew Travis assumes the group's leadership.  Mr. Travis has a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Penn State and a Bachelors degree from the University of Michigan in Music with honors in Voice Performance.  He is now the music director at Trinity Pawling School.

Welcome to Our New Accompanist, Sung Lee

We were joined in January, Dr. Sung Ju Lee, who is an amazing concert pianist and music educator.  She received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Michigan, was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University, and a Professor at the National University of Education in Chunchon, Korea.

DOCUMENTING KENT SINGERS' HISTORY: CALL FOR PHOTOS AND MEMORABILIA

The Kent Singers is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the founding of the group this year, and as part of that the current singers would like to reconstruct and document its history.

Probably every former singer in the group has a little bit of that history stored in the attic, or in the drawer with old music, or on a shelf by the piano.  It may be old programs, or press clippings, or annotated music, or reviews of performances.  We are especially interested in photographs, or personal notes about the activities of the group while you were a member.

We, the current singers, would very much like to collect that history, that documentation, and preserve it. We would appreciate any contributions of relevant material -- preferably the originals, but copies if you want to hold on to the originals.

You may call David Hopkins at 860-354-9258, or Susan Mullins at 860-354-7310, or get in touch with any of the current singers whom you may know, to speak with us about this effort.

We shall be receiving materials at:  Kent Singers, PO Box 774, Kent, CT 06757.
